You read right. OK, well not Beverly Hills proper – but pretty freakin’ close. The 99 Cent Store is inviting cash-strapped couples to get hitched at their Wilshire/Fairfax location on 9/9/09 for only 99 cents. They are calling the wedding promotion ‘The Luckiest Day of the Century, at the Luckiest Store for Bargain Lovers’ (quite a mouthful, IMO – I think they could’ve come up with something catchier, no?), and according to the store’s press release, the digs will be gussied up with decor created from 99 Cent Store merchandise. An ordained minister will be there with bells on, ready to unite the bargain lovers in holy matrimony.
In LA and interested? Call this number by August 24, as space is limited – (323) 881-1247. (Actually, call it anyway – it’s hilarity that they have a hotline! Strings playing and everything!) Well, this is definitely one way to skirt the budget issue. I wonder if they’ll serve bacon-wrapped scallops.

wow.. getting married at the 99-cent store is pretty sad. then again, i do know someone that got married in the store they met and worked together at, but even she said it was cheesy and regretted it later.

broke bride-to-be
i actually heard about a wedding that took place on the T, which is Boston’s public transportation. Apparently, the couple met on the commuter rail, so thought it would be cute. Whatever works!

i like creative weddings that have sentimental meanings to the couple. the one i was referring to said it was very last minute, she was 6 months pregnant and another employee married them. barely a year later they were separated and then divorced. Kitch is cute, so long as the couple is ready for the commitment and not just doing it to do it.
i, personally, can’t wait to see all the little touches you’ll be throwing into your wedding. ❤
